FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We hope that this information will answer your queries.  If not, then call us and we will help.

1. How do I get from the Gillis Centre to the city centre?
The buses take about 10-15 minutes and go to the east or west end of Princes Street.
The No. 5 bus will take you right to the city centre (North Bridge/Princes Street).
Or the No. 16 from Bruntsfield Road (5 minute walk from Gillis)
Or the No. 24 in Marchmont (3-minute walk – turn left at our gates walk to the first traffic lights, then left and you see the bus stop.
You can also walk to the centre via the Meadows (a large open space); this is a pleasant walk which takes about 30 minutes

2. How much is the bus ticket?
As a visitor you may be best to buy a day ticket which covers all the routes.

3. How do I get back from city centre?
See information under No. 1 above or go to our page "Getting Here" which gives information.

4. How do I get from/to the Airport?
The quickest bus is the No. 100, express, from the Airport to Waverley Bridge (on Princes Street and the main rail and bus stations).
Buy your tickets at the airport information desk, at the bus stop, or from the driver.  The journey is about 25 minutes.  The bus departs every 10 minutes or
so and a single ticket is £3.50 (return £6).  Or you can take a taxi.  More information is on our "Getting Here" page.

5. Where can I park my car?
The Gillis Centre has private parking for all guest s on a first-come first-served basis;  we have 20 spaces.There is free parking on Strathearn Road after 1830hrs. You can come into the grounds and, if there isn’t parking available, drop off your luggage and go and park; space often becomes available after 1730hrs.

6. Is there Internet access?
Yes, we have Wi-Fi, but it is intermittent in the bedrooms (this is an old building with thick walls!). Reception and the library offer the best hot-spots.

7. What choice do I have for places to eat near the Gillis Centre?
There are plenty of options to suit all tastes and all budgets. On Bruntsfield Place (5 minutes on foot) you will find several restaurants and pubs.

8. Do you have a hairdryer in the bedrooms?  ironing board?
All rooms have a hairdryer.  Irons and ironing boards may be borrowed from reception.

9. Can I have my luggage stored in the Gillis Centre if I'm not leaving the city until late?
We have somewhere for you to store your baggage if you arrive before check-in and your room is not available or if
you want to stay on in Edinburgh after check-out time (see below).

10. Are the baby beds available?
Yes, we have travel cots available; please request one when booking.

11. What is the earlies/latest time I can check-in and check out?
You can check in from 1230hrs. We ask guest to check out before 1030hrs, to give us time to prepare the rooms for our new guests.
